Up For The Cup

27 Jun 2014 by John Cordingley

The first team got their league cup run of to a great start with a victory against Fleetwood at the home of cricket.

We posted a very modest 181 for 9 off our 40 overs. The main contributors were Wadey 27, Kammy 25 and Gregor with some lusty blows at the end with 18 including a huge 6. Common supported very well ensuring we went past 150 an on with 16.

To win we would need to bowl the visitors out. The key to victory was to get opener Parker early and hope sub pro the one and only Chesney Hughes didn’t fire.

The plan was simple let John handle it!

Kammy removed the opener Clarke before Parker was caught with a diving catch at slip by John the likes have never been seen ever before on Birch Hall! With Hughes on strike and being in power play Kammy asked John to bowl. After 3 dot balls things were looking good, the next ball we think cleared St Albans Guesthouse. The next ball was cut for 4 and things were looking rather ominous. The final ball will be spoken about for many years to come. The vicious off spinner was released drifting into the left handlers pads, pitching on leg stump, turning sharply and hitting the top of off stump.
Outlandish celebrations ensued, with man hugs all round.

That was pretty much game over with wickets falling at regular intervals, with George taking the final catch to seal the victory bowling the seasiders out for 135. Leaving John with his first 5 wicket hall.

We meet St Annes at home in the next round!

Thank you for indulging myself!
